The vast and boundless sky, the endless wilderness, and the herds of cattle and sheep grazing in the wind-swept grassland—this is the portrayal of the Cherle Plain, the closest natural grassland tourist attraction to Hohhot, painting a magnificent picture of ancient nomadic life as described in the poem “Beneath the Yin Mountains, the Cherle Plain spreads wide.”
Initially, I envisioned the grasslands of Inner Mongolia to be lush and verdant, with an abundance of thriving greenery. However, upon visiting the Cherle Plain, I was truly astonished. The entire scenic area appeared to be abandoned, desolate, and barren. 🤣🤣
We visited the Cherle Plain Cultural Tourism Zone, a 4A-rated tourist attraction, but scarcely saw any staff members. Despite its imposing architectural gateways, there was no visible tourist center. A plethora of tour buses were parked randomly at the entrance. 🚌❤️
Travel Tips:
- Although there is plenty of grass, it is sparse and not tall, so don’t have too many expectations. 😂
- The scenic spot is desolate and suitable for leisurely jogging. 🏃 There are no amusement facilities, so it may not be ideal for families with children.
- Vehicles can drive through the impressive gateway straight to the Genghis Khan Square, which is still worth a visit.
- It is located close to Hasu Lake, just a 5-minute drive away. You can visit it, even though it also gives a sense of unmanagedness, the natural scenery is still quite stunning.
Despite its current state, the Cherle Plain still retains a certain charm, offering a glimpse into the raw and untouched beauty of the grasslands.
