A Snapshot of My Arrival Experience in Ulaanbaatar

The new Genghis Khan Airport, albeit small, exudes a charming compactness that facilitates swift navigation. 🛬 Everything went smoothly: the immigration process was straightforward, with only a cursory inquiry about my accommodation in Mongolia.

Retrieving my luggage was a breeze, and upon exiting the customs area, I turned right and promptly found two telecommunications providers. I opted for Unitel, securing a 10G data plan for 25,000 Mongolian tugriks. The internet speed was impressive, and payment was conveniently accepted via credit card and WeChat.

Initially, I contemplated withdrawing cash from an ATM machine located just outside the arrivals hall, but the interface was inscrutable. Instead, I exchanged a few hundred Renminbi at a favorable exchange rate of 465 tugriks to the yuan. The currency exchange and taxi counters were conveniently colocated.

The taxi fare, set at 100,000 tugriks, was reasonable. The vehicle was clean and comfortable, offering a satisfactory ride. Similarly, payment was facilitated through credit card or WeChat, and a helpful attendant escorted me to the vehicle.

However, the infamous traffic congestion of Ulaanbaatar did not disappoint. While it was manageable, the journey from the airport to my hotel took approximately two hours. My initial impression of the city was somewhat underwhelming, as I witnessed vast stretches of barren, sparsely green grasslands and the urban landscape of Ulaanbaatar.

Nonetheless, I am eager to delve deeper into the experience and immerse myself in the unique charm of Mongolia. #MongoliaTravel #Ulaanbaatar #MayHolidayAdventures #OffTheBeatenPath #Mongolia #LiveAndLife #LivePhotos
