Getting to Putian:
Take the high-speed train to Putian Station. From there, you can take a direct bus to Wenjia Pier (simply inquire with the security personnel at the train station, and they’ll guide you on your way).
To reach the island, take a ferry. The adult ticket price is 125 yuan per person (round trip).
Transportation on the Island:
- Choose a tourist sightseeing bus.
- Opt for a public bus.
- Rent an electric scooter (I personally chose this option for 80 yuan per day).
- Shared bicycles are also available.
Exploring Meizhou Island:
North Route: Mazu Temple, Tianfei Hometown, Meiyu Tide Sound, Rainbow Road, Lianchi Ao Beach.
South Route: Mazu Film Park, Ewei Shenshi Garden (Feiji Cave), Huangjin Beach.
Accommodation in Putian:
Most tourists choose to stay in the downtown area, where prices are reasonable and amenities like shopping and dining are conveniently accessible.
Cuisine in Putian:
- Try the delicious meat soup at Dongmen Dou Awen Meat Soup Shop. Their sweet potato tofu balls might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the soup itself is highly recommended.
- For a must-try local delicacy, seek out the renowned Sheng Jianbao (fried buns). Filled with vermicelli and meat, they are truly delicious.
- Skip the green bean soup as it can be overly sweet.
- Lao Putian Xian offers a delightful dish called Shuitou Zicai Bao, a savory blend of seaweed, meat, and taro.
- Longqiao Bianshi’s mixed vermicelli and pig liver dish is also a tasty option.
