A Memorable Journey to Xinjiang: Insights and Tips for Your Own Adventure

After half a month of careful planning, I embarked on a journey to Xinjiang, initially considering joining a tour group due to the vastness of the region and the potential pitfalls of exploring independently. Traveling with my mother added to the need for ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable trip.

I scoured various platforms, testing numerous options, until I almost got overwhelmed with the choices. The process was exhausting, but ultimately, I decided to join a small, pure-play tour group recommended by a friend. Fortunately, this decision paid off, as the tour exceeded my expectations and avoided any pitfalls. The entire trip was delightful, and I still cherish the memories of my days in Xinjiang.

Here are some insights and tips from my trip that I hope will serve as a useful reference for your own adventure:

  • When booking a tour, it’s crucial to sign a contract and carefully review its terms. Typically, a deposit is required, so inquire about refund policies in case of unexpected changes in plans.
  • Dinners are often served quite late, around 8 or 9 pm, due to the late sunset in Xinjiang and the vast distances between attractions. It’s essential to pack snacks, a U-shaped pillow, and slip-on shoes for comfort during long car rides.
  • The wind at Sayram Lake can be intense, but the scenery is breathtaking. Make sure to bring a warm and wind-resistant hat.
  • Check the local weather forecast before departure to dress appropriately and have a rough idea of the scenic vistas you might encounter.
  • Xinjiang is a vast region, and traveling alone can be challenging. It’s advisable to travel in a group for mutual support and companionship.
  • Prepare for a variety of accommodation during your stay in Xinjiang. Disposable underwear, bed sheets, and face towels are convenient for frequent changes.
  • Our tour package cost around 4k, inclusive of accommodation, transportation, insurance, driver services, attractions, itinerary planning, airport transfers, and drone photography. Additional expenses were not included in this figure.

Travel Experience: I’m delighted to report that our tour group exceeded expectations. The driver was particularly skilled and ensured a smooth and comfortable journey for my mother. The beauty of Xinjiang, especially Sayram Lake, was truly breathtaking, and I eagerly await my next visit to this incredible region.
