Whenever possible, it’s advisable to embark on this journey as early as you can. If given a choice, it would be ideal to avoid the summer peak season, as the crowds can be quite overwhelming these days, and many hotels tend to hike up their prices. Last June, I followed the recommendation of a friend and joined a small group tour to explore these breathtaking landscapes. Here’s a snapshot of my itinerary for your reference:
- Sayram Lake: Here, a sea of flowers blossoms against the vast grassland, and the clear lake mirrors the snow-capped mountains. Spending a night here will reward you with a memorable sunrise that will etch itself in your heart.
- Guozi Gorge: Following the trail from Sayram Lake, we arrive at the picturesque Guozi Gorge. This is a must-visit destination for capturing breathtaking scenery.
- Nalati Grasslands: This is the epitome of grassland beauty, offering a unique and unparalleled landscape. The rolling meadows and herds of cattle and sheep create a dreamlike scene that is truly captivating.
Important Reminders: The weather in Yili is quite dry, especially for those wearing contact lenses. It’s essential to keep a close eye on your eye health. Additionally, bring enough outerwear as the temperature fluctuations can be quite significant. Don’t forget to pack warm clothing! If you’re planning to ride a horse, remember to avoid wearing sandals as your feet might get cold, and refrain from spraying perfume as it might frighten the horse.
Highlights of the Journey: This was my first time joining a tour to such a remote destination, and I was initially quite apprehensive. However, once we arrived, all my worries vanished. Upon landing, we were greeted by a friendly representative holding a big sign, ensuring we wouldn’t get lost. They accompanied us to the hotel, sharing their enthusiasm and recommendations for exciting places to visit. Our tour leader deserves special praise for capturing stunning photos of us that are absolutely breathtaking. They even took us to a horse racing event, where watching the horses gallop across the field made me yearn to try it myself. As a pleasant surprise, our tour leader gifted us with a plethora of local delicacies.
Ambiance: My companions were mostly peers from the post-95 generation, making the trip filled with lively conversations and shared interests. Our tour leader consulted with us regularly, ensuring that our young minds were engaged and entertained throughout the journey. The trip culminated in a sea of laughter and joy, making it a memorable experience.
