The Cost of a Journey Through Xinjiang: My Actual Expenses

How much does it actually cost to travel through Xinjiang? Here’s a breakdown of my expenses during my visit in late May and early June. Xinjiang, vast and expansive, poses a significant challenge in terms of transportation costs, which constitute the bulk of my expenses. Fortunately, the cuisine is quite delightful.

Initially, I had intended to rely on public transportation and even considered traveling on a shoestring budget via the subway. However, the vastness of Xinjiang rendered this approach impractical. Instead, I opted to participate in local one-day tours, which allowed me to explore both the northern and southern regions of the autonomous region.

My itinerary was relaxed and enjoyable, taking me to various scenic spots such as the Sayram Lake, the Nalati Grassland, the Qiaxi Valley, the Baisha Lake, the Karakul Lake, and the Kashgar Old Town in the south, as well as the Kumtag Desert, the Mazha Village, and the Tuyugou Valley in the north. Overall, I spent a total of 10,104 yuan, which was within our budget and left no regrets.
