Yesterday’s itinerary unfolded as follows: at 6 a.m., we embarked from the school, traversing the city via subway to witness the ethereal phenomenon known as “blue tears”. Arriving at the Tianjin Lingang Coastal Park around 9 a.m., we beheld the vivid blue tears along the shoreline, a sight that was distinctly visible to the naked eye but elusive to capture through our phone cameras. Borrowing a picture from a friend in our group (p11), we were fortunate to witness a proposal accompanied by a breathtaking fireworks display.
Afterward, we made our way to Isetan for a discounted meal at Haidilao, where we indulged in a sumptuous feast. Exhausted, we sought refuge in a massage chair, slumbering peacefully until 4 p.m. Awakened and refreshed, we hurriedly arranged a carpool to the Dongjianggang Qinhai Park, eager to witness the orange-hued sunrise over the sea. Upon completion of our sunrise vigil, we boarded a bus back to the subway station, snoozing all the way back.
A few tips for spotting blue tears and sunrises: the appearance of blue tears is not a daily occurrence, thus it’s crucial to check the weather and tide tables beforehand. During high and low tides, the phenomenon is particularly evident. It’s advisable to bring a bucket and rope to recreate the blue tears effect on the spot (though heavy stones can also be used). A flashlight is also helpful as the area can be dimly lit, making navigation challenging. Comfortable footwear is essential as the evenings and early mornings at the seaside can be chilly, and wind-resistant clothing is recommended. For sunrise viewing, there are designated shuttle buses available, providing a convenient roundtrip service. It’s advisable to check the timetables in advance. And for those with the stamina of a special forces soldier (like myself), the Teda Life Center offers an excellent resting spot, with numerous reclining chairs and massage chairs, perfect for a quick nap before the sunrise.
