Embarking on a half-day adventure in Tanggu, inspired by the meticulous guide on Xiaohongshu, was an unforgettable experience. Starting from Tianjin Railway Station, we hopped on an intercity train bound for Tanggu, a journey that took merely 17 minutes. Upon arrival, we exited through the south gate and embarked on a leisurely walk towards the Old Pier.
Arriving between 1 and 1:30 pm was highly recommended, as this was the time when dedicated volunteers gathered to feed the seagulls. Their prolonged calls of “Dinner time!” drew flocks of seabirds that flew close to the shore, even landing on the piers. The volunteers, who have been spontaneously feeding the seagulls for a decade, shared their insights, noting that the birds were somewhat timid towards humans and thus, interactions were relatively scarce.
After the enchanting encounter with the seagulls, we happened upon a unique-eyed Border Collie, its plump figure resembling a little lamb. The stroll continued towards the Daliangzi Ferry, where boats departed on the dot, as indicated by the timetable affixed to the gate.
Since our arrival time did not align with a scheduled departure, we explored the neighboring park, which, despite its compactness, offered a diverse array of attractions. From a museum and a zoo to a garden filled with exotic stones, it truly had everything. Even a Christian church caught our attention, prompting a brief visit to the museum.
Our journey to Daliangzi Village by ferry lasted approximately five minutes, costing just two yuan per person. The convenience of being able to bring vehicles on board added to the authentic rural charm of the experience. Arriving in the village at around 3-4 pm, we stumbled upon a lively night market.
A visit to Shunxiangzhai was particularly noteworthy, where we sampled delicious white-skinned pastries. The shop’s unique setup, with the production area in the back, ensured freshness and authenticity. The delicious flavors were highly recommended. Our trio’s Tanggu adventure, centered around the Old Pier and its seagulls, ended with exhaustion but a sense of pure joy.
Each of us carried our own burdens, but the escape from the hustle and bustle of the city provided a welcome break. Life continues, and so, we pressed onward, embracing each new adventure with enthusiasm. #TangguOldPierSeagullWatching #DaliangziFerry
