A Visit to the Ancient City of Jimingyi

Nestled beneath the majestic Jiming Mountain, the Ancient City of Jimingyi is a historical settlement that evolved from a postal station. Located in Huailai County, Zhangjiakou, it is approximately a 1.5-hour drive from Beijing. As a novice drone pilot, I found myself constantly yearning to take my drone out for a spin.

Every chance I got, I eagerly scanned DJI FLY for spots that offered both suitable flying zones and scenic vistas. As is widely known, the only regions in Beijing where drones can legally fly are in Hebei Province. Therefore, I decided to embark on a journey to Zhangjiakou, Huailai, and ultimately, the Ancient City of Jimingyi.

Upon arrival, the neatly arranged ancient city walls immediately caught my eye, causing me to wonder if they were indeed a modern construction due to their impeccable neatness and freshness. After locating a parking spot, I observed numerous elderly residents soaking up the sun. It was then that I realized we had inadvertently wandered into a local village.

As my drone took flight, my excitement waned. It was merely a village enclosed by city walls, a quintessential Northern Chinese rural scene with brick houses, tiled roofs, and colorful steel rooftops in hues of red and blue. Evidently, there was no need to purchase tickets for entry. I would advise others to simply capture a few photos from outside the city walls with their drones. For those without drones, a visit may not be necessary.
