As summer beckons, I’ve always eschewed the crowds and opted for more secluded paths. This time, my destination is Guanqin Mountain in Shanxi Province. While some may have heard of Luya Mountain Scenic Area, it’s merely a small fraction of the vast Guanqin Mountain National Forest Park. Entry into the park is free, and it offers numerous routes that are ideal for self-driving or hiking, with scenery that rivals even Sichuan. The only drawback? The absence of snow-capped peaks.
Introducing Guanqin Mountain National Forest Park: Nestled at the confluence of Ningwu, Kelan, and Wuzhai counties in Shanxi, Guanqin Mountain boasts its peak, Luya Mountain, at an elevation of 2736 meters. It serves as the birthplace of the Fen River, a major river in Shanxi. The mountainous terrain is steep and rugged, with deep valleys and dense forests, making it the native habitat of the Huabei larch.
