Nestled at the border of Kuancheng Manchu Autonomous County in Chengde and Qianxi County in Tangshan, Panjiakou Reservoir serves as a crucial component of the โYinluan into Tianjinโ project. The steep peaks flanking the reservoir are adorned with jagged rocks, creating a formidable landscape. ๐ชจ The region, encompassing Xifengkou, is renowned for its ancient Great Wall fortifications. Portions of the wall submerged in the water have given rise to a unique spectacle – the underwater Great Wall, a national rarity. ๐ฅ
The lush greenery and shimmering waters of Panjiakou Reservoir offer a respite from the worries of the world. ๐โฐ๏ธ As for activities, camping โบ๏ธ and accommodation are available, and I particularly looked forward to trying some authentic rural cuisine. Most activities, excluding boat rides, are complimentary, but the thrill of a speedboat ride across the vast reservoir is well worth the investment. ๐ค๐ The reservoir’s immense size ensures a two-hour roundtrip, affording ample time to admire the natural splendor and experience the excitement of the speedboat. ๐
Getting to the reservoir from downtown Tangshan at 7:30 involved navigating through heavy traffic and numerous villages, arriving at the entrance at 10:30. While being offered a meal at a local household before the boat ride, I opted to wait, preferring to enjoy the scenery first. Eventually, I joined a group for a speedboat ride, priced at 150๐ฐ per person, without any haggling. The journey was nothing short of breathtaking. ๐ค
After disembarking, around 12:30, I chose to dine at the same household, sampling their delicious rural cuisine. The fried river shrimp ๐ฆ and scrambled country eggs ๐ฅ were particularly noteworthy, though I must admit I ate the shrimp too quickly, resulting in a minor mishap. ๐ The wild vegetable salad with tofu and the stewed reservoir fish, though the latter took too long to prepare, were also delightful. ๐ฅ๐
