Exploring Shaoxing: A Travel Guide

πŸš— Transportation: From the end of Hangzhou Metro Line 5, switch to Shaoxing Metro Line 1 at “Niangqiao Station” to reach the hometown of Lu Xun directly (approximately 1 hour).

πŸ•Œ Accommodation: It is recommended to use a map to search for accommodation, preferably in the northern section of Lu Xun’s hometown for convenient transportation.

🏝 Attractions: Mostly consisting of former residences and museums, the area is deeply immersed in historical ambiance. However, excessive viewing may lead to aesthetic fatigue. Among the attractions, Xiaoshan Street, located south of the Shushengguli Gate, is particularly recommended. It retains the original style of an old street with minimal commercialization.

(I purchased a delicious shrimp pancake on Xiaoshan Street! The original price was 5 yuan, but I successfully negotiated it down to 3 yuan!)

πŸ“Έ Photography: Shushengguli boasts numerous stores offering cheongsam and Hanfu rentals for only 40 yuan, inclusive of makeup and hairstyling. Some even offer all-day rentals, along with the option to accessorize with flowers.

🌠 Prices: Huangjiu popsicle costs 5 yuan, Huangjiu milk tea is priced at 16 yuan, sweet fermented rice ranges from 6 to 8 yuan, stinky tofu is 10 yuan, and Shaoxing printed cakes are 15 yuan for 4 pieces.

Overall Impression:

  • It’s true that Zhejiang lacks a vibrant nightlife! (At least based on my experience in Shaoxing) A visit to Cangqiao Zhijie after 7 or 8 pm revealed a sparsely populated and rather desolate atmosphere (possibly due to it being a weekday).
  • Perhaps merchants perceived me as a university student and quoted higher prices (in stores without clear pricing). However, a bit of haggling could easily lead to savings of several yuan.

Travel Tips: Adventurous travelers can opt to walk, those seeking a more leisurely pace can cycle, and those who prefer convenience can take taxis. The cost between attractions averages around 10 yuan.
