This is episode 36 of our series exploring obscure travel destinations while dressed in traditional Hanfu attire. 🎎 It’s rumored that this temple, a renowned shrine for prosperity, is only known to locals. Why crowd the popular Lingyin Temple when you can visit this serene, suspended temple and breathe in the wind of two thousand years?
🌟Nestled within a cave, this temple is flanked by a sapphire river valley and a pond filled with vibrant koi fish, making it an absolute paradise for photography enthusiasts! ✨ It’s located just 3.5 hours from Hangzhou and 1 hour from Wenzhou, situated within the charming towns of the Nanxi River region, which abound in lesser-known yet captivating destinations.
🌄 With its scenic mountain ranges, it’s also a prime spot for self-driving, hiking, and cycling excursions. Marking our destination, the Taogong Cave in Dayaoyan, Yongjia, Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, is said to be highly efficacious for those seeking blessings. Initially planning to return, my curiosity was piqued by an elderly townsman’s words…
Upon arrival, I witnessed villagers carrying heavy loads on poles into the temple. My curiosity piqued, I observed intently until a flash of white cloth revealed a pink nostril… Could it be a pig’s head? It was indeed a pig’s head, and not just one, but dozens lining the long tables, accompanied by various offerings. This confirmed the townsman’s words – this ancient temple, nestled deep in the mountains and unchanged for over two thousand years, must possess something truly special.
❤️ This is the second cave-suspended temple I’ve discovered in Zhejiang, a rarity in this region. The combination of ancient temples, rocky cliffs, river valleys, and koi fish offers an exceptional photographic experience. While the area may be small, its beauty is truly captivating. I recommend exploring it along with the lesser-known towns nearby (detailed below).
