On the morning of May 2nd, I made a spontaneous decision to embark on a journey to the scenic spots of Southern Anhui, with the intention of collecting some stream stones for my aquarium. Knowing that the endeavor would be challenging with a large group or if it exceeded three hours, I opted for the serene and secluded Baizhang Cliff in Shitai County. The journey from Hefei took approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes, and the route was uneventful, smooth sailing the entire way.
Upon arrival, I found the scenic area to be sparsely populated, just as I had hoped. The lush green landscape evoked a sense of enchantment, reminiscent of a fairy tale forest. The moss-covered ground was a treat for my eyes, as I am currently fascinated with ecological landscaping. Unlike other spots in Southern Anhui that are filled with numerous steps, the terrain here was gently undulating, allowing me to follow the stream upstream, stopping and starting as I pleased, thoroughly enjoying the experience.
The water was crystal clear, and the bottom sediment was ideal for keeping turtles and fish. It was noteworthy that there were steel cables and ropes installed above the waterfalls and pools, providing an exciting opportunity for adventure seekers to climb and explore. I imagine it would be a thrilling experience to play in the water during the summer.
The entire hike took about an hour and a half, and the return route, although devoid of streams, offered a thrilling alternative with the zip line. With only a rope for support and the canyon below, it was a heart-pounding experience. Half an hour after leaving the scenic area, I arrived in Shitai County. Since it was a spontaneous trip and I had not booked a hotel, I almost found it difficult to secure accommodation. Fortunately, I eventually settled for a room at the Quanji Hotel. Although the prices were inflated due to the holiday, the room was satisfactory, being a newly built hotel. However, upon arrival, I discovered that there were several small hills behind the hotel, which might be unsuitable for those who are slightly timid.
Overall, it was a memorable and enriching experience, and I would highly recommend this scenic spot to anyone looking for a peaceful and scenic hike in Anhui.
