My maiden seabeach adventure in Xiamen was unexpectedly fruitful, and here are my key learnings:
- Always consult tide tables a day ahead (easily accessible on Baidu) and arrive at the beach half an hour before the lowest tide.
- Do not rely solely on the beach itself for catches. It is imperative to seek out exposed reefs during ebb tide, as most fishes hide beneath the rocks.
- Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, bring your boyfriend along for the seabeach adventure. Large reefs often hide bigger fishes, and your boyfriend’s assistance in turning over the rocks (with thick gloves, of course) will be invaluable.
All these treasures were discovered at Huangcuo Beach in Xiamen, and after capturing them on camera, they were all gently returned to the sea.
