A Laid-back Travel Guide to Changting for University Students

Hihi! Here’s a relaxed and budget-friendly travel guide to Changting for university students! This trip is all about embracing a casual and stress-free atmosphere.

🚄 Arriving at Changting South Station, you can easily reach the ancient city in just a few minutes by taxi. For accommodation, we chose the luxurious and comfortable Muse Hotel, which is conveniently located close to various attractions in Changting. The hotel is clean, cozy, and well-equipped with air conditioning. It also offers breakfast, although we didn’t manage to wake up early enough to enjoy it! Additionally, there’s a unique local dish called ‘Bobi Ban’ right next to the hotel.

😋 Changting is renowned for its diverse cuisine, including dishes like boiled beef and pork loin. However, since I prefer stronger flavors, I didn’t try too many local dishes. Nevertheless, here are a few restaurants that I found particularly delicious:

  • Fisherman’s Shop · Tingzhou Cuisine: Located at the entrance of Shuidong Street, this restaurant serves amazing vinegar fish that’s a must-try! Other dishes are also delicious. The restaurant has a scenic view of the river, so it’s best to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
  • Teashan Pai: Also situated on Shuidong Street, this tea-themed restaurant is highly recommended. If you love tea, you’ll definitely enjoy the unique flavors and novel ingredients. The upstairs seating area offers great photo opportunities, but it can be quite crowded.
  • Yu Tian · Handmade: This delicate and photogenic bakery offers tasty sandwiches. While the portion size is a bit small and the prices are slightly higher, the quality is worth it.

✨ As for attractions, I visited Diantou Street and Shuidong Street. However, due to heavy rain for two consecutive days, many of my plans were washed away. While Diantou Street offers some photo opportunities, I wouldn’t recommend buying anything there as the prices are quite high and the selection is limited. I also had a disappointing experience at Yunyang Costume Rental, which lacked good service, quality costumes, and makeup. The store is also quite small with limited options. I even developed an itchy ear from wearing one of their earrings for a week!

When planning your trip to Changting, it’s crucial to check the weather forecast. The daytime can be quite muggy, so it’s advisable to plan your activities for the evening. Overall, Changting is a charming destination with plenty of hidden gems, but be sure to avoid the pitfalls I encountered!
