Long-Awaited Guide to Zhangzhou: A Relaxing Weekend Getaway

Finally, here’s the long-delayed guide to Zhangzhou, perfect for a post-internship getaway that will undoubtedly boost your mood!

Day 1: Zhangzhou Ancient City

From Guangzhou East Railway Station to Zhangzhou Station – ¥302. Upon arrival, we took a taxi directly to our hotel, conveniently located near the ancient city. After settling in, we embarked on a leisurely walk to explore the city.

As we visited during a less busy time, the city was relatively quiet, allowing us to enjoy a leisurely stroll with our friends, snapping photos as we went. The pace of the ancient city was serene, making it an ideal spot for a city walk.

Along the way, we admired the scenic views of trees, buildings, and cats and dogs. For those wondering what to eat in Zhangzhou Ancient City, look no further! We stumbled upon a delicious restaurant near the city center – Song Xiaojin (Longwen Wuyue Plaza Branch). Their seafood stone pot tofu, with its rich sauce and combination of tofu, scallops, and shrimp, was simply delicious when paired with rice. The Minnan mustard greens rice, a local specialty, was also a delightful surprise, especially with its unique combination of mustard greens and floss.

Day 2: Dongshan Island

From Zhangzhou Station to Yunxiao Station – ¥31. From Yunxiao Station, we opted for a shared ride to Dongshan Island (costing ¥30 per person) as it was more convenient than taking the bus. Upon arrival, we were greeted by numerous drivers offering rides.

Our accommodation for the night was a charming homestay in Tongling Town. We highly recommend renting an electric bike to explore the island, as it offers a convenient and cost-effective way to get around (prices range from ¥30 to ¥50 per day, with a minimum two-hour rental). Just remember to negotiate the price and check the brakes and battery level before setting off.

It’s essential to check the weather forecast before visiting Dongshan Island. Unfortunately, we encountered a cloudy day, which slightly dampened the scenic beauty. On a sunny day, the views would be truly breathtaking.

Some must-visit spots include: 1) The rooftop from the movie “Left Ear” (we skipped it due to the weather), 2) The popular wall that offers a stunning view of the sea and the surrounding landscape (see Figure 12), and 3) The lighthouse featured in “Your Wedding” (be sure to check the tide schedule to avoid disappointment, as we did).

Day 3: Jinluan Bay and Sufeng Mountain Coastal Road

Due to the unfavorable weather, we missed out on the sunrise at Jinluan Bay. Nevertheless, we rented electric bikes to explore the scenic Sufeng Mountain Coastal Road. The journey was a visual treat, with the sea breeze adding to the serene atmosphere.

We highly recommend cycling along this route, as it offers an unparalleled experience. Sharing the journey with friends, listening to music, and soaking in the beauty of the surroundings will undoubtedly leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
